Background (Before 2000)
Born in Delhi, India, as Baljit Singh Sagoo, Bally Sagoo was raised in Birmingham, England and spent his college years producing mixtapes for friends and DJing at local events. In 1989, the local record label Oriental Star gave Bally the opportunity to remix a track called Hey Jamalo, which Malkit Singh sang. The song was a super hit, and he joined Oriental Star as a producer.
Bally released his first album, Wham Bam, in 1990, which became a monumental success. In 1994, he signed a major deal with Sony Music, producing ‘Bollywood Flashback’, which became the biggest Indian remix album of all time. Bally was the first Indian artist to be playlisted on national mainstream radio when Chura Liya was played on the UK’s Radio One.
In 1996, Bally supported Michael Jackson during his historic tour of India and had the unique opportunity to produce the album of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. That same year, Bally released the album “Rising From The East.” In 1997, Bally was invited to the palace in New Delhi to meet the then-Indian President, Shankar Dayal Sharma, in recognition of his achievements.
