Lisa Aziz is a British (mixed-heritage) News Presenter. In September 2005, she returned to Bristol, becoming one of the regular co-anchors on ITV West’s The West Tonight for a short period. From 16 February 2009, she became a co-presenter of the pan-regional news programme The West Country Tonight, which replaced The West Tonight on ITV West and Westcountry Live on ITV West Country.
In 2021, she won the IRN Gold Award, and in 2022, she won the Outstanding Contribution to Media Award at the 10th Asian Media Awards. Lisa now works for Global Radio, where she previously read the morning news on LBC and presented the breakfast programme from 6am to 9am on Mondays to Fridays on the news station LBC News.
Background (Before 2004)
Lisa Aziz was born in Totnes, Devon, to a Bangladeshi father and an English mother, giving her mixed heritage. Lisa graduated with a BA (Hons) in History of Art and Religious Studies from the University of London (Goldsmith College). After her studies, Lisa joined Radio City, in Liverpool, as a presenter, and moved to Bristol in 1983 where she worked as a television reporter and presenter for the BBC and HTV West. In 1988, Lisa joined TV-am as a reporter and presented news bulletins for the station in 1989. Lisa was one of the first British half-Asian presenters to be seen on mainstream television and the first Muslim news presenter.
While continuing to present TV-am bulletins, Lisa joined Sky News in 1992 and became one of its main news presenters until 2005. During her time at Sky News, she covered some of the biggest stories around the world including the 2001 9/11 and 2005 7/7 attacks, the Madrid bombings, the deaths of Princess Diana, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret alongside countless general elections and major political events.
