Since Winning the EMMA Award
Natascha Slagtand, aka “Tasha’s World,” is a Dutch-Surinamese singer who won The Silver Harp award, also known as the Zilveren Harp, in 2004. In 2007, Natascha took a break from performing and the music industry. During this time, she was asked to join the board of “Your World” (Rotterdam European Youth Capital 2009) and advised the municipal council on music projects for Rotterdam youths. Natascha was also offered to start a new talent development program called “Harvest Me”, which provides young and upcoming Rotterdam talent with all the necessary tools to become professional artists.
In 2013, Natascha independently released her 3rd studio album, BLCK GLD, and her most recent song, “Changes,” was released in 2023. Throughout her career, Natascha Slagtand has always been concerned with social issues. She was a co-host and advisor during the Rotterdam BLM manifestation. Natascha continues to advise municipal institutions on slavery issues and the impact of the colonial past. At the end of 2023, Natascha became the platform SABI’s chairman, a role she currently holds.
Background (Before 2003)
Natascha Slagtand was born in Rotterdam, and comes from a musical family surrounded by music all her life, mainly from the Jazz and Soul genres. Natascha’s musical influences include Billy Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, and Quincy Jones. She released her debut album, “Tasha’s World,” in 2002 and won the Essent Award that same year after receiving our EMMA recognition.
Natascha, who later became known as “Tasha’s World”, and her band toured the world, performing at venues such as the Jazz Café in London, S.O.B’s in New York, Ahoy Rotterdam during Friends of Amstel Live, and the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague.
